Can you get a guy to commit by telling him that you want commitment? Perhaps you are secretly wondering if your man is committed to you and hoping that he is. This is something of a problem for women in relationships as we tend to want the commitment early on whilst a man is happy dating and not always keen to get himself "tied down" too quickly. If you're not quite sure where you stand, then how do you tell him that you want commitment?

Well firstly, if you've only just started dating, it really is not the time to be talking about commitment. It can be pretty scary for a man early on if he thinks your ultimate goal is the "C" word. If you tackle this issue too soon, you are going to send him running. So, play it cool, be laid back and pretend you're not too bothered for at least several months. He'll feel safer if he doesn't think you're out to catch him. Wait until he's showing signs of emotional attachment before you even go there.

OK, so you've been seeing him a while, you've been as cool as you can be and you want to know if he's open to a future together. Don't be afraid to tell him what you want from your relationship. It's your future too and you have a perfect right to want what you want. However, you must understand that he also has the same right and if commitment is not on his agenda, then there's nothing you can do to get a guy to commit.

So here's what to tell him. Wait for a time when you feel connected to him. Never come into this conversation from a place of negativity. Compliment him, tell him how much you love being with him and how great he is. Then tell him your hopes for the future and ask him whether it's something that he's thought about and would be open to. Let him know that you understand that it might not be what he wants but it's important to you and you'd like to know his thoughts on the matter. Keep your communication loving and light-hearted, as if it is the most natural thing in the world to ask. Feel confident in your deserving to be with someone who wants you enough to commit to you. Don't get emotional and don't be drawn into giving him lots of reasons why he should want to commit to you.

Now, you have to wait for his reaction. Realise that he may not even have considered making a commitment to you up to now and he may need some time to think about it. It may be scary to him or it may be exciting. He may be flattered or he may be flabbergasted. Whatever happens now don't get upset. Give him space to think about what you have said.

Even if he appears to be wavering, be strong. Get on with being the fabulous woman that you are. The chances are that if he's been with you a while, he won't want to lose you, so if he pulls away, just let him go and trust that he'll be back. Don't try to persuade him by talking about it. This won't work with a man.

Sooner or later you will get your answer. And the more cool and confident you stay during this wait the more likely it is to be a positive one. Believe that you deserve more and you are much more likely to be the type of woman who will get a guy to commit. If you don't get the answer that you want then at least you found out before wasting too much time. There are certain types of men who will never commit, no matter how long you wait. Let him go and move on. You deserve far more than someone who's not really sure. You deserve a guy who wants to commit to you.
